Restaurant Nutritional Information
When you head out to your favorite place around the corner or a completely new dining location, it isn’t like in the grocery store where you can turn around a product and immediately know everything that’s in the food on the menu. Restaurant nutritional information can be hard to come by since most places don’t even know for sure how much salt or butter may be in each item. This is especially true of house made products rather than mass produced food. However, there are still many ways to learn about what’s in your food whether you’re headed to a chain or a local spot.
For chain places, it’s become much easier to figure out what the fat, caloric, and sodium levels are. Many places, such as McDonald’s, now prominently display the contents of their food near their menu. Most of these include comparison charts so you can decide what is the healthiest choice for your particular diet and physical condition. Additionally, they often include additives such as cheese and dressing, so you can make a more informed choice.
Unfortunately, for smaller chains or singly owned restaurants this isn’t much of an option. However, you as the eater can still get a good idea of what levels of caloric, sodium, vitamins and minerals you’ll be consuming by using good estimates. They are many guides available, called calorie counter’s or some such phrase, that have a list of commonly made items, such as pasta Alfredo, and their levels of both positive and negative contents. They may not be perfectly accurate, but they give you a good idea.
