MADH3 Gene
Definition and Synonyms

Definition: The SMAD3 gene is a human homologue of Drosophila Mad and is required for the TGF beta signal transduction pathway. MADH3 activity is regulated by TGF beta receptors. MADH3 is phosphorylated and associates with ligand-bound receptor complex, defining MADH3 as an effector of the TGF beta response. MADH3 and MADH4 synergize. SMAD3 and SMAD4 proteins specifically recognize an eight base pair palindromic sequence, which confers TGF beta responsiveness to a minimal promoter. The human gene is located at 15q21-q22.

Synonyms: MADH3 Gene, JV15-2, MADH3, SMAD3
